Welcome, readers! This year's initiative at Katana is a fresh approach: advertising for a cause. Ready, set, go! All revenue generated from advertising, after covering operational costs, will be directed towards charitable organizations. This shift marks a significant moment in my blogging journey as I embrace a more purposeful approach to monetization.
For the past several months, my interest in advertising had waned considerably. I found more joy in free-writing, networking, and acquiring new knowledge. Early on, I experimented with various advertising platforms, such as Adsense, but often felt perplexed by the types of ads displayed, like "600% Penny Stocks." What if the advertisers were scams? If you’re successful with Adsense, more power to you! My discomfort with the platform was a personal matter that needed addressing.
As I delved deeper into the realm of online advertising, I discovered alternative methods that aligned better with my values. One of these was to join affiliate advertising networks like LinkShare, which allowed me to vet advertisers beforehand and ensure their offerings were relevant to my readers. While we can never guarantee the integrity of the products (think Enron), I felt this approach was a step up from using contextual ads where I had little control.
Maintaining the site's integrity is paramount. We will not be influenced by corporate interests or the allure of their financial incentives. My commitment is to promote only those products that I genuinely believe in. If I don’t find value in them, I won’t promote them for any amount of money. Earning money online is a skill that takes time and effort to master, and the best advertisements are those that are subtle and relevant.

The tragic events in Haiti serve as a powerful reminder that we all have the capacity to help, no matter how small our contributions might seem. I firmly believe that anyone who breaks into the top 100,000 in the Yakezie Alexa Challenge can generate at least $1,000 a month. This realization could be a motivating factor for many aspiring bloggers.
My mindset shifted dramatically when I transitioned from a focus on personal profit to using my earnings to benefit others. This approach to advertising has revitalized my motivation. Interestingly, a monthly income of $1,000 seemed insignificant when I considered my overall earnings. However, had my income been lower, I might have found that amount more enticing. It’s ironic, but the hours dedicated to this site for just $1,000 a month could have driven me to quit in the past!
In order to resist the temptation of frivolous spending, my trusted consultant will manage all advertising revenues. They will ensure that the proceeds are donated to various local and international charities on behalf of Katana. If there’s a feasible method for advertisers to directly donate to specific charities without passing money through us, that would be a great solution as well.
For Advertisers: A dedicated Advertise page has now been established for your convenience and inquiries.

Here are some valuable reads to help you navigate the world of blogging and monetization:
- “How To Make Money With A Blog” by Pete offers insights for all bloggers eager to monetize their platforms. This resource is particularly relevant given my new initiative.
- “Chaos Is An Inspiration For Change, But Don't Wait” by Flexo encourages readers to take charge of their destinies. The chaos in my own life led me to pursue a business education, which ultimately birthed this site.
- “Why Doesn’t Anyone Feel Remorse When It Comes To High Income Earners And Taxes?” by E-dog attempts to create sympathy for individuals in the highest tax brackets. Paying $100,000 a year in taxes sounds daunting, yet many still take home significant earnings after taxes.
